I just ordered the Garmin Fenix 5s Plus and was wondering if I could adjust the watch topo routes etc.  Will I have to buy the topo map from garmin to transfer infomation etc  Or will I be able to see the topo maps on my Fenix using Basecamp.  Have no idea any help would be great.  Watch is being shipped today but will be a week before I get it.

  • You should be able to view the maps and interact with it using BaseCamp. Which maps you have on the watch doesn't affect that.

Ok Thanks, received my Fenix 5s + today.  So I take what  you are saying is that even though when I purchased the watch it said TOPO included I can't interact with the BaseCamp map since it doesn't have the same topo.  That seems like a waste of memory.  Maybe what I need to do is pay another $100 to get the 24k Topo for BaseCamp and then I can download routes etc.....  I was hoping that the Northeast 24k would be included since when ordering they knew I was from Maine.  Any additional information you can supply would be very helpful.   Thanks

  • When you plug your Fenix into your computer Basecamp will read the maps from your Fenix. Be patient as the first time you connect Basecamp has to index the map and it may take a few minutes.

Yes as long as I'm connected to my Fenix 5s Plus I can see the maps.  It took an hour to download.  I have to be connected to my watch to see the maps?????  All the maps are on the left side of BaseCamp when I plug my watch in.  It's so slow it must be reading the maps from the watch and there is NO DETAIL.  I guess I'll have to reset the watch tomorrow and try this all over again.  Must be doing something wrong.  There is NO topo maps there.  Thanks

  • Did you actually select the map?  Note the map isn't downloaded, it's simply indexed as Breezly posted above, so your Fenix needs to be connected.

If the map is showing underneath your Fenix in the left hand pane right click it and select the map. Other way is to click on Maps in the top menu bar. Once the map is selected I suggest you set the detail level to medium, it makes panning etc quicker, you can always reset the detail to a higher level when you need it.
