Basecamp & Birdseye (without a 'compatible' device) for satellite map imaging

Can a subscription to Birdseye be used in Basecamp as a way to get satellite map images without a compatible device?

From what I keep reading the subscription has to be applied to the device but I was thinking this could be a way to enhance Basecamp and get a 'Google Earth'/maps feel.

  • Unfortunately it cannot. In order to subscribe and upload images to BaseCamp you will need to have an active and associated Garmin device. And the images are only downloaded with the device connected to the PC.

An alternative to your demand, would be to build personalized maps of geo-referenced Google Earth images and save them in KMZ (or KML) format and then open in BaseCamp. Especially because the BirdsEye images are different from the Google Earth images.
