How can I view my overlay maps (birds eye select) without the garmin Topo map showing through?

I'm using Birds Eye Select (Ordnance Survey maps) on my Garmin Etrex.  When I look at my maps to plot routes etc. there are roads that are showing from the Garmin Topo map below.  Is there a way that these can be switched off?
