After preparing a direct route in base camp for a hill walk, I like to know how much up and down there is on the route. ie how many metres up and down. If I use an Ordnance Survey 1:50 k or 1 :25k base map for preparation in Base Camp I cannot get this information - in the properties/graph display is shown "Current map does not contain any elevation data on the selected route" This is of course untrue because the OS maps have excellent contour graphics and height information.
If however I use the much inferior Garmin uk topo base map I can get the ascent/descent information and the graphics of the route. But this map is not very good for preparing a route and there are printing restrictions as well
Is this a ploy of Garmin to make one use (buy) only their maps? I understand that for base camp to read elevations the map must be 'digitally enhanced' Are the latest OS maps DE? My copies are quite old.
I note that using Memory Map software the identical route prepared from OS base maps produces height and ascent/descent info and allows unlimited printing of routes.
