GPS Trace corrupts.

My Map64s is corrupting its daily trace, which destroys the distance records, speed records etc. I have to edit the trace in Basecamp to remove the spurious tracking points it randomly inserts.

These are traces of my normal daily driving which I record tracing my life in a motorhome.

It just suddenly and randomly will reinsert an early point I have passed, sometimes once and sometimes many times in a day.

It is a real nuisance, today I covered about 180km but the GPS trace said I had done 234km till I removed the random points.

When you are driving you cannot trust the distance covered that the GPS is reporting so you don't know where you are.

I have tried a reset from the Reset All Settings under the trip computer and starting the GPS holding the Enter Key down so it runs tests.

I had hoped that the update to the GPS software I did yesterday might have miraculously sorted the problem but it hasn't.

Any suggestions???

  • Spurious points can occur when there is a change in the satellite constellation (these are on the order of 10-20 meters), a loss of lock or some other glitch.  Yours would indicate a loss of lock or some other glitch since they are on the km order.  Loss of lock rarely occurs with the newer units.

I would recommend that you save one of your tracks (the first one would be good) and send it to Garmin Support.  Your first one looks like it is inserting a point at regular intervals going back to the origin or the previous glitch.  It may indicate something wrong with your device, causing it to restart.  The second one is harder to explain unless you made a stop in Chinchilla.

Things you can try are to turn off Lock on Road, run the unit on batteries if you are using power port or off the power port if you are using batteries.
