Routes cannot be saved on device

Hello.

I am trying to load some routes I have created using Basecamp (4.7) into my Garmin device (DriveSmart 50).

I can save small routes but not big ones (around 90 waypoints or even 25 waypoint). It tells me "cannot save route" once I unplug the device from the computer.

The software on the device is updated (5.9) and the maps match on both computer and device.

I think this issue could be related to the size of the route. I thought it automatically splits the route into different parts with 30 waypoints max each but it is not working in this case.

I need urgent assistance as I need to start my work trip tomorrow morning. If anyone knows more about this issue or have had similar problems, please let me know.

Thank you.

  • Not sure why it isn't working nor why you would need that many viapoints in a route?  I know in the past devices have truncated routes and the current limit is 30 points, although you can add hundreds of shaping points. I have no issues sending routes to my DS50  but I'd suggest trying routes with less viapoints, even it it means splitting longer routes up.

I have no idea how you create routes in BC but I add a start and finish point, then let BC create a route. After that I rubber band it to make it go the way I want if it hasn't already done so. Even on routes hundreds of miles long I rarely need more than 10 vias.
