Routes created in Basecamp 4.7 and sent to etrex20x can not be edited within the device?

Hi,

Trying to understand Basecamp and routes.

I have created routes within Basecamp and transferred them to an etrex20x. Within the device, according to the manual on page 13, I should be able to edit that route within the device. However, when I try to do that, Edit Route is not an option. Not for a single one of my routes I created within Basecamp.

When I look at the properties of a route within Basecamp and look at the Route & Directions, in addition to the waypoints I created, I see direction/turn by turn info like "Get on footway and turn west".

Now, if I create a route for my inReach Mini out on https://inreach.garmin.com/Map and then export the .gpx file, then import that gpx file into basecamp, then the Routes and Directions tab has the waypoints and none of the "turn left" info.

When I import the route that was created on https://inreach.garmin.com/Map on the extrex20x, via basecamp, that route CAN be edited.

So any idea on why you can't edit a route on the device where the route was created in Basecamp but can edit a file that was created outside basecamp, imported into Basecamp and then sent to the device?

Thanks!

  • You don't say which profile and which map you're using but it could be a mismatch here, from your description it sounds like you're using a routeable map in BaseCamp but that same map may not be on your Etrex.  Try sending the route as a Direct route from BaseCamp, I don't use any other activity routing on my handhelds as to do so first requires a routeable map and secondly one that will route along the trails I want to use, which is highly unlikely.  Having sent the direct route recalculate it on the device and see if you can then edit it.

Thanks for the help! I sent the route as a Direct and that worked. :)

I am using the hiking profile with default settings.

Within Basecamp I have US Pacific OSM Topo selected, and on the device I have US Pacific OSM Topo enabled which I have renamed gmapbmap.img

I also have.... Edit -> Options -> Device  Transfer -> select eTrex20x, -> Transferring Routes and selected Strip shaping points..... , selected Also send the original route, in case I want to recalculate later, And I selected Always match route to the map on my device when transferring.

Since I am using OSM Topo and it is a routable map, that is what is causing the issue. I think.

Again, thank you so much for the help.
