Using the route (pencil tool shortcut letter I) problem

I start a route and click the next point using the pencil and it then creates a route up to that point and then I click somewhere else and the route then continues to that point but then sometimes the next click results in the route to that point coming from the start point and not my last clicked point.
any ideas where I am going wrong? I followed a youtube video tutorial and he didn't have the same problems the route just kept carrying on to each subsequent point he clicked.
why does muine route to some points from the starting point? even when the next click is half a mile from the last clicked point?
  • The shortcut letter "I" is the Insert tool not the routing tool. You can modify a route or track with the Insert tool but to create a route use the route tool (shortcut "R").
  • I think if you look at the route closely you will find that it is backtracking through the start point. This can happen based on the avoidance settings for the Activity Profile you have chosen. Problems can also occur with non-Garmin maps - some of them require specific avoidance settings to work properly. It is difficult to give a diagnosis without knowing the map, Activity Profile and road types of your route. Seeing the route can help members figure out what is happening.
