detailed maps in BaseCamp

Should I be able to see the detailed maps in BaseCamp even when the satnav is not connected?

some background
I am a long time user of BaseCamp 4.7 on a Windows 7 PC
I currently have 2 Garmin satnavs
Camper 660
Zumo 350

I always install maps to my PC during updates
and I am pretty sure I have always been able to see the detailed maps in BaseCamp on my PC (even when the satnav is not connected to the PC)
but recently I noticed that only the "global map" is visible when the device is not connected.

The detailed maps do show correctly when the satnav is connected to the PC.

Well you should but your screenshots suggest you don't have the maps installed to your PC? Your other post though indicates you have? So it's confusing. BaseCamp 4.7 is known to have issues with maps so have you recently updated from 4.6.2? If it was me I'd revert and see if that resolves it.

Thanks for the reply.

I have cleaned up some of the old maps (because I thought that was a possible cause) but I still have the last 2 updates 2019.20 and 2019.30 on hard disk

OK I see you have edited your post :-)
I am not certain which update first brought on the problem. It could have been the 4.7 update. I will try and find a safe copy of 4.6.2 and try that.

I managed to fix this myself.

When installing the maps to a computer, Garmin Express gives you the option to install the maps to another disk/folder. I had installed to my D: drive because of low space on my C: drive.
When I re-installed the maps to the default folder on the c: drive, they now appear in BaseCamp as they should.

So I think the issue is that maps must be installed to the default "C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps" folder.

Hope that helps anyone else who experiences this problem.
