Hi, I am based in New Zealand and I am planning to do Route 66 in the USA in 2020. If I purchase the USA map for my Garmin Nuvi 2597 now for planning purposes, will my current lifetime map update feature also apply to the USA maps?
OK Thank you once again. I tried to purchase USA from the Garmin Express as well as BaseCamp and couldn't locate any maps at all to purchase so will have to look into this some other time.
Thanks again. That link worked. Trouble is my Nuvi 2597 is not listed in the compatibility list. The map also is too large at 2.5Gb to fit and it doesn't include premium contact like off ramp pictures etc. I'd be better off trying to buy online a new Garmin out of the USA with USA maps etc preloaded & with lifetime updates. I could then use Basecamp to assist with Route 66 planning etc in advance of our trip.
That's certainly an option. Just so you're aware if you bought the map you could install it to a card on your device and still do BaseCamp planning, or buy it on a card which you could then sell on after your trip. Don't worry about the fact your device isn't on the list, it will work with that map.
Buying a US model with Lifetime Maps is the best option by far. Unless I'm mistaken an overpriced card will not have the Junction Views you mention. The NZ$140-odd you pay for a card will go a long way toward getting a US new GPS that will do a far better job, get traffic signals if possible and be a lot easier to sell when back home. The popular auction site here in NZ is littered with counterfeit unlocked map cards so you'll be competing with cut price offerings. If looking for a reliable US dealer I recommend GPSCity - I've dealt with them for 12 years.
