BaseCamp not showing all installed map options

I have four versions of "City Navigator North America NT" installed on my PC (Window 10), all installed to the same folder (D:\Garmin\Maps\): 2019.10, 2019.11, 2019.20, and 2020.10. 2020.10 was just installed today.

Prior to installing 2020.10, all three previous map versions were displayed under the Maps menu and Maps -> Manage Map Products.

After installing 2020.10, now only 2019.20 is displayed under the Maps menu, and under Maps -> Manage Map Products. I cannot see the newly installed version, nor can I see the older ones.

Any pro tips on resolving this would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Mark
  • That's very weird, I've never had a new map install uninstall other ones. Have you looked in Control Panel, Programs to see which maps are listed?

The other maps haven't been uninstalled. Or at least, all the files are still there on the disk. Other than the maps not being listed in BaseCamp, everything else looks normal.

    I'll try reinstalling BaseCamp.

Also a bit odd: two of the installed sets of maps (2019.20, and 2020.10) show up in the Windows 10 application manager, but the other two don't.
  • You could also try running JaVaWa's GMTK program, that should let you know if there are any issues http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

    Thanks. I'll check that out.

One issue, entirely my own fault, I did not restart my GPS (BMW Navigator V) after updating it via Express.

After restarting the GPS, the 2020.10 maps now show up under the Maps menu, but if I look in the Map Product Manager, the 2020.10 entry is pointing to the GPS itself, rather than the copy of 2020.10 under my D:\Garmin\Maps. Which works fine, but obviously means I need to have my GPS connected to my PC.

So now I have, in Map Product Manager, the 2019.20 maps pointing to 'D:\Garmin\Maps\City Navigator...', and the 2020.10 maps pointing to a file path that points to the connected GPS.

I think I'll just remove all traces of the Garmin software from my PC and start fresh.

Complete aside: is it just me or is the inactivity timeout on these forums super short?
  • For some it seems short, others don't have an issue, so it seems machine/system specific.

Rerun Express and select the Install to computer option and that should solve the 2020.10 map issue.

I uninstalled everything, deleted my old D:\Garmin, reinstalled everything, reinstalled the maps with Express, installing to the default C:\ location. Seems to have fixed everything up. I now have an on-disk copy of the 2020.10 maps.

    Thanks for the help!
