Questions about using BaseCamp

For years I’ve been using MapSource, finding it being more convenient comparing to BaseCamp. But recently our of cross-platform reason I started to master BaseCamp step by step. Below I’d like to ask several questions concerning some features MapSource had, but which I don’t see in BasCamp. Not sure if they were permanently discarded or I just can’t find them inside the new interface.

1) How can I turn off map services in BaseCamp? In MapSource it was in Preferences -> Display -> Services -> Auto/On/Off.
2) After I opened and closed several .gdb files in BaseCamp now I see in My Collection, in “Unlisted Data” folder, a bunch of waypoints, routes, etc from previously opened .gdb files, even after I deleted their information from My Collection. How to keep it all neat, not getting this kind of garbage in “Unlisted Data” folder?
3) Where is all information stored when I’m working with BaseCamp, saving waypotins and connecting them into routes? In MapSource I had to save .gdb files, while in BaseCamp, it seems, I have to do nothing, which is a little bugging me as I got used to save information into files. Yes, I know I can export a project into a .gdb file. But what if BaseCamp chrashes in the middle and I loose the part of work I’ve been making there?
4) When I totally delete a waypoint in BaseCamp, the route, which has it, is not recalculated like in MapSource. Instead of a waypoint icon I still see black dot there without any changes in the route.
5) Is it possible to have default sorting of the list under My Collection by name, not by symbol? I had to switch it all the time as I want to go through my list of waypoints in alphabetical order.
6) List of created routes don’t have distance to the right of their names like it was in MapSource?
  • 1. Not sure what you mean by Map Services? If it's certain POIs etc it's in Edit, Options, Activity Profile, Select features to be displayed.
    2. Unlisted data is exactly that, data that isn't in a list. If you don't want it then delete it. If you want to stop items you delete ending up there then ensure you right click then select Delete and not simply Remove. Also if you select an item and hit the delete key it'll end up in the unlisted data list (think of it as a bit like your recycle bin).
    3. BaseCamp saves your data automatically. You'll find the file is called AllData.gdb and is location varies depending on the Windows version, just do a search for it. You'll also see an AllData.bak so if AllData.gdb corrupts for any reason you have a back up.
    4. It'll recalculate if you open the route and hit the recalculate button.
    5. Unfortunately not.
    6. No, they don't
