Is there any way to get BaseCamp to start up with Overlays hidden? I don't generally use the overlays much (BirdsEye images are hooorrrrriiiibbbblllyyy out of date). But I cannot find any way to get Basecamp to start up with Overlays hidden. It always reverts to showing the overlays on start up. Not a really big deal, of course. It only takes a second to turn them off. But it would be nice to not have to do that every time.
BaseCamp uses folders and lists to organize/cross reference the objects in My Collection. This also minimizes what is shown in the map window. Only the items on a list or within a folder will appear in the map window. BaseCamp will remember which folder/list being viewed when it closes and open to that list. Creation of a list without any overlays and shutting down with that list active will solve your issue.
Thanks for the suggestion. But, if I understand your instructions correctly, it doesn't quite solve my problem.
I have several folders, with lists in each that contain waypoints and tracks that I have used to organizes various aspects of the data I am storing. Usually I want to have all of that data (except the BirdsEye overlays) visible. That requires me to select the top level folder "My Collection". And that pulls in the BirdsEye overlays along with everything else, until I hide them.
It's no big deal. A very minor issue. It would just be nice to configure the Show/Hide Overlays in the Options setup.
I'm afraid there is no way to do that. I don't know what you are currently doing, but I'll try to give a couple of possible alternatives.
One option is to create a list and periodically send everything in My Collections to that list and use the filter option to quickly select and remove the BirdsEye imagery. This could be quite time consuming if you have a lot of data.
Perhaps a better approach after the initial transfer of all data to the list would be to use a work flow of creating new data on an empty list and when done, remove the list and go to the unlisted folder to send data to list of everything sans BirdsEye list and any other appropriate lists.
But do you really need to see everything? Could you use the Selection tool in My Collections to quickly select a subset(s) of data to send to an empty list and then remove Birdseye imagery to create a temporary working list? Or perhaps send some of your folders/sub-folders to a temporary list and then remove BirdsEye imagery?
