send route to GPS and follow it

I have created a route in Basecamp (for going on smaller roads by car), and a track from the route. The simulation works fine in Basecamp. Then I send the route and the track to the GPS (Garmin Nuvi 3490) the route looks correct. But then I try to follow it in the car the GPS optmize the route and wants to take the fastest way. Are there some algoritms that is possible to disable? Or how do I avoid this problem? /Thanks Sabina
  • First, your nuvi cannot display tracks so no point in sending a track. As for following the route we need more information to help but confirm you're using the same map in both BaseCamp and your nuvi? How are you trying to navigate the route on your nuvi?

Thanks for the answer. Then following the route in the nuvi, we go to apps, trip planner. Then our route shows. So we click on it and press start. It doesn't follow the route, it only tell us to take the fastest way. We saw then googlig, a tips to create a track. But as you say, we didn't find the track in the nuvi. I'll check if we are using the same map in both BaseCamp and the nuvi, but I think we do.
  • When you see the route in trip planner it will list your start, your end point and any intermediate points. Which one are you selecting before you hit go? If you want to follow the route you need to select the start point. I suspect you're selecting the end point in which case your nuvi will try to take you there ignoring your route.

It is the same map in Basecamp and the Nuvi. Yes, I select the end point then I'm trying to follow the route. I tried to select the first point after the start point, then I had to select each point. If I select the startpoit, will it follow the route without having to select each point?
  • That's your issue. From the list you select the point where you want to start joining the route. Your device works out a route to that point then follows the route so if you want to follow the whole route you select the start, not the end, point.

Thanks for the answer, it worked on another Garmin device: Smartdirve 61. But not in Nuvi 3490. All waypoints were selected in Smartdrive, but in Nuvi I could just select one waypoint at the time. Is there a way to select all waypoints in Nuvi3490?
  • You don't select all waypoints, just the first one you want to go to. From there its automatic.
