Is there a way to stop 4.7.0 upgrade popup message in BaseCamp 4.6.2

The nag message to upgrade 4.7.0 has popped up on several occasions on my desktop and laptop computer and I would like to find a way to kill this message. One concern being I may inadvertently finger check and upgrade to 4.7.0 which would kill off the Google Earth Pro linkage which to me is unacceptable.

There's no "check for upgrade" option I can see in 4.6.2 and I've looked in the task scheduler and also the registry in my Windows 7 Pro OS and the triggering of the pop up is not there.. so must be in the BaseCamp 4.6.2 code itself. Guess if I could find the IP address it's checking could kill that with a local hosts entry..

Anybody got other ideas how to do this?

    Except that Garmin have changed the keyname. You now need to set HavePromptedForUpdate to zero.

    Ok, that works. I set ALL the permissions for the "%TEMP%\Garmin Software Updates" folder to DENY EVERYBODY. I can't even look in that [empty] folder.

    No nags. No option under Help to update. Yay.

    AuldNik - read your post and took a look at my WIN 10 installation and found the same as you. I tried this, and so far it is working for me - Set the permissions for the folder that contains those files - "Garmin Software Updates" to deny for all users on the system but one (not related to the Basecamp install). So far, all is good. Even in the Help Menu of Basecamp the option for install update is gone. I am watching closley, but it's been 2 days and typically I get the "nag" a couple times a day when I'm using Basecamp.


    Ran into a glitch this AM,with these settings - I was unable to do a Garmin Express Update - assuming that map updates will fail as well. Oh well, back tothe nag screen, for now.

    On win7 it is here:
    C:\Users\youraccountname\AppData\Local\Temp\Garmin Software Updates

    If you can't see that folder you need to set the folder properties to show system files.

    I am using Basecamp 4. 6.2 and can use the view and bring up Google Earth. I am still getting the Update to 4.7.0 and want to stop it but can't find the suggestions above. I use Basecamp and Google Earth to make my routes while I am fulltime and do not want the 4.7.0 which eliminates the View. I would like either add the View back into 4.7.0 or provide a way to stop the update. As long as the newer Basecamp apps don't have the View I don't plan to update. Please revise Basecamp 4.7.0 to 4.7.1 to add the View back in for those of us that can and want to use it with Google Earth.

    I doubt if that will happen. Just keep running 4.6.2 ...

    Thank you for the help, I no longer get the update nag.

    In Windows 8 the folder on my computer is C:\Users\Tony-PC\AppData\Local\Temp\Garmin Software Updates

    I didn't know what to do once there so guessed and it worked. Right clicked on the folder > select Properties > select the Security tab.

    In the box headed "Group or user names" there were 4 lines:
    SYSTEM
    Tony-PC
    Administrators
    Users

    Beneath this is "To change permissions, click Edit. So I clicked the Edit button.

    This opened another box with just a Security tab. Clicked on SYSTEM then ticked the "Full Control" empty box in the Deny column. This box and the boxes beneath it all ticked at once.

    Did the same to the other 3 lines and then clicked Apply and Yes to the notice.

    The OK and OK to get out of the Properties boxes. It may not be necessary to treat all 4 lines, others may know better.

    Given the widespread knowledge of problem / faults version in version 4.7 has in the most basic of map transferring tasks and the tardiness of Garmin in addressing it we can assume that they don't care about BC any more.

    Thanks, phil - works for me (win10).

    First, I saved a txt document into the folder to explain the restricted permissions and deleted the two garmin files.
    Then, I removed the permissions inheritance on the folder : right-click the folder and get Properties; click security tab; click advanced; click remove inheritance; click OK

    Now, you can remove all users from permissions but you don't have to. Just limit permissions for each user to ListFolderContents and Read (I have removed all users (system and administrators but left my user, which is the owner of the folder). That way you can still open the txt file and read the contents - just can't save or delete files.

    BTW, to see all environment variables' values (including %temp%), get a command line and type SET (and hit enter).
