Follow a "route" exactly as developed

This may have been asked before but I don't seem to be able to find an exact answer. I have plotted a "route" using Basecamp. When I use the route in my Navi 2597 (Trip Planner) it does not follow the exact route I have developed. I does this irrespective of the Navi settings of "Shorter Distance" or "Faster Time". How do I get the Navi to follow the exact route I developed? I have tried using Waypoints but each Waypoint appears in Navi Trip Planner as a destination and asks where I want to go next. I just want to go from the start of the trip to the end point of the trip via the exact route. Some of the Waypoints are at road intersections and could be only a short distance between each other (depending the roads). it is very annoying having to enter each Waypoint as the next destination.

There is no "exact" solution to this problem with the Nuvi/Drive automotive devices, because the user does not have all the options that seem to be available in Basecamp. Please re-read the Sticky forum thread on Garmin waypoint naming (ABOVE) in its entirety for openers.

Then consider refraining from placing "waypoints" at intersections, but do place those waypoints in-line on the roads around the corner after the next turn. Now, also remember that placing points in line on a straight road may induce Basecamp to decide to do you a favor and "thin" out the redundant points if you click on the wrong button, I ran into that issue when I switched to Basecamp four years ago, but maybe the issues of inline thinning and weirdo waypoint/stop sorting by name were somewhat addressed before Basecamp development was put on hold.

In any event, if you need near 100% race/rally route control, you will likely be better served by switching to shorter distance, not faster time, recalculation. Good luck.
  • Note too that using trip planner if you want to go to the first point and then follow the route you only need to select that point and then Go. You don't have to select other points. They are only there should you wish to go direct to them first and follow the route from that point onwards ...

SUSSAMB If I understand you correctly, to follow the developed route exactly, you are suggesting I will need to continually select the next point in my route until I get to my planned end point. This is dangerous to do while driving in traffic (takes your eyes off the road).
  • No, as I said you simply select the first point in the route if you want to go there first then hit Go. After that you don't have to do anything.

Your sig says you have a drive 50lmt, which is relatively close in functionality to my driveluxe 50. Since upgrading to firmware 5.70 it no longer imports basecamp pushed routes. It'll import the way points contained within the gpx file (temp.gpx), but not the actual route itself. Are you seeing this behavior on your unit too? I know this used to work with the older firmware (5.20), but since upgrading the above is as far as it gets.

    Ideas?
  • Try a master reset. Working on my unit without issue.

SUSSAMB thanks for your help. I have tried the suggestion on two short routes and in both cases it follow the developed routes. It try some much longer routes in the near future.
