This is a question about loading auxillary maps onto a Garmin. The particular map I want to load is a Calfornia map but perhaps there are generic tips for any such map.
I have been using California Trails maps loaded onto to Basecamp as its a nice detailed suppliment to the Garmin maps for offroad, hiking and biking trails. The developer states that I can load the maps onto a Garmin GPS but after may attempts I cannot load California Trails onto a Garmin GPS. .I have tried loading onto Nuvi models 765, 865 (2 different ones) and 55 using Garmins Mapinstall.
Ive tried the procedure described on the CT website (https://www.californiatrailmap.com)...... load CT map twice, then do a device reset.... but I can never see a CT map for selection on the GPS, only the Garmin map already installed on the device with a check box shown. I should see the Garmin map and the CT maps able to be selected.
On all attempts on all 4 devices the Garmin Map Loader states successful install. After the install, I can see a new file on the Garmin devices called gmapsupp.img , but its size is 4.784MB and the maploader is showing 67MB for CT.....maybe a clue?. Ive repeated installation procedure multiple times on each device, installing to internal memory and auxiliary installed memory, using Mapinstall as a standalone and from within Basecamp, but all no joy..
It would be very useful to have CT on a GPS while out on a trail. Do you have any other tips to for me to try something different?
Configuration is WIndows 7, Basecamp 4.6.2,
thanks!
