Uploading Topo Maps

Hey there,
The Canadian government has some really nice downloadable topo maps but I can't seem to get them into BaseCamp. The format is SHP and I was also able to download it in KML but neither version seems to want to import into BaseCamp. It ends with an error message. Is the formate the problem? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also of there's a way to load them right onto the SD in a way that my eTrax 20 can read them, and skip BaseCamp all together I'm all ears for that as well

Probably not but you need to ask the map maker. Or post more details of the map here, where are you getting them from?

The Pre-packed Datasets were what I was using. I can view the map in another part of that site, the problem seems to be when I try to upload it to BaseCamp.

I was also attempting to use a few maps from this site also:

The "Nova Scotia Topographic Database - Landforms" about 10th from the bottom it a good looking topo map. But I couldn't get that to load in BaseCamp either

Let me know if you have any ideas I can try

I've moved the thread to the PC section, however having looked at your links it's unlikely they can be installed into BC. Your best bet for advice as I originally posted is to contact the map makers.

You need an img file.

Mkgmap can create an img file from an osm file.

The following shows steps to produce a osm file from a shp file.

chad902 if that works note that the img file can be placed directly into your Etrex, needs to go in the Garmin folder. If it works please post back. Thanks.
