DEZL owner with questions

Hello, I just received my Dezl 770 and notice the maps are 2018.2. Of course it would like me to update to the latest map version 2019.2 (or .1 I forget exactly.) My basecamp map is 2018.2. Is this going to be a major problem with communication between the two mapsets? Will the work I generate in BC be visible in the device that will contain 2019.2?

It's a trucker's GPS, but several use this device for long distance motorcycling as well.

Thanks.

The work that you are creating in Basecamp doesn't include map data. Any map data (coordinates, mostly and names) used is copied into the Basecamp route and thus becomes separate from the map data).

If you create a route using roads that are not available on the older map, then that could be a problem. There's a good chance that there aren't many differences between the two maps for the roads you are using.
  • You can update both your device and your PC. Click on the Options button in Express under the Map update.

I thank you very much, folks!

If I may try your patience just a little further with a couple more questions, I would be forever in your debt....

Is it possible to purchase CNNANT 2019.2 so that I can add it as a map on my computer and thus select it as a map in Basecamp?

My device (Dezl 770) has a slot for a micro card (my 60SCx could only run with one, so I have several handy.) Do I need to load maps on that SD card before dragging routes and waypoints to it in Basecamp? (The maps would be 2018.2 because that's all I have on my system presently.)

And lastly, if I wanted to, could I load my trusty 2018.2 map onto the Device and thus select it as the map I would see when using the Dezl 770 riding all over the blessed US of A? And if so, how is that done? Previously, I would place the .gmap file in the appropriate location in my Garmin folder and Basecamp would find it.

Again, I say, THANK YOU for being here and for sharing your knowledge, time, and patience.

    Michael
  • Why are you suggesting buying a map? Don't you have lifetime maps with your Dezl?

No need to use the SD card unless you're short of space on your device. If you do though it will just work seamlessly and you can send routes etc from BaseCamp to either your device or card.

Thank you for your your information! Very much appreciated, Sir!
Yes, the Dezl has that lifetime map update feature. I guess I wanted the purchased mapset so I could load it into BC and then both mapset in BC and mapset in Device would match........if that is even an issue nowadays.

I spent YEARS using my trusty 60CSx and I'm just experiencing the wonderful feeling of being a newbie again with a "modern" device. Again, I very much appreciate your time here. thank you.
  • Express will allow you to install the map to both your device and PC. See options under Install map in Express.

I see that with the Dezl 770 that is doesn't matter what icon I elect to use in BC, the device has only a few it displays.
I am a long-distance motorcycle rider participating in the Tour of Honor challenge and as such, have different sites to visit within different categories. I gave each category a different symbol in BC, but most come over to the Dezl as the blue flag. No biggie really as I also have paper notes to go with each site.

Ok, thanks. I'll begin a new thread from here on. Thank you for helping me lean new "stuff!"

  • I've moved your stuff to a new thread. Afraid the icons are what they are. With a handheld device you can set up custom symbols but that's not the case with automotive devices.

Well, at least they look perdy in Basecamp! Thank so very much! Again, in public, I apologize for hijacking the other thread......Thank you for setting everything in a new location cause lord knows, I'll have other questions!

So, if I am reading this correctly, I can update my 770 to the current map, select the option in Express to also update my BC, and everything will be like.....hunky dory? I admit freely that upgrading anything scares the bejeevies outta me! Kinda like my furniture making.....everything fit great until I glued it up! :-)

Based on your recommendations though, I'll do it tonight (I read somewhere the updating takes like three years longer than forever.) :-)
