Basecamp doesnt work correct with my astro 320

basically the same as a 62 series.

if i hook the gps to my computer, i can view what is on my gps. if i delete any of the tracks on the gps(internal storage), they do not actually delete, despite looking like they have been deleted.

also, if i attempt to send anything to my sd card... individual tracks, waypoints, or an entire list... nothing. it shows that it is sending them, but then when i open the gps, they arent there. if i send them to the internal memory, they are there. it is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. basically basecamp is completely worthless to me for transferring, and i cant really find a work around.

worst part is i have thousands of waypoints on the gps, and about 200 that i need to update. and no way to remove them from the device besides painstakingly deleting one at a time on the device, and then sending them to the internal memory, as opposed to the sd card, where i want them.

garmin, you are the absolute WORST, and you need to fire someone at your software development team... but you wont, cause you have zero competition.

can anyone give me a good work around here?

thanks.
  • I suspect like many devices BaseCamp cannot access the data on your GPS. The simplest way forward with devices like that is to copy all the data into BaseCamp then delete it from your device using the menus on your device. Note before doing that ensure you delete all the gpx files in the GPX folder on your device. Once your happy your device is empty of data then send the data you do want, edited as appropriate, back to your device.

Note though this has nothing to do with how BaseCamp works. It was originally developed for handheld devices where it can access and edit the data on them. Its use has now migrated to devices like your Astra and their on the road devices, which have a different way of handling data that does not allow BaseCamp to work the same way.

but it used to work perfectly fine with this same device. a handheld astro.. and it worked fine with my 60csx, essentially the same thing.

im not sure how this is acceptable to garmin. chicken or the egg... but there software is broken and there is no replacement.

so, if i have 1000 waypoints on my unit, and i want to delete 200, i have to delete them all one at a time on my device? with garmin's awful UI on it's devices, this will take hours.

thanks for your help. this is extremely frustrating. $500 on a gps and im stuck with this nonsense.
  • Are you sure there is no multi delete? There is on every other Garmin device I own.
  • If the device behaves like a 62, what you are trying to do should work. If you still have the 62 does it behave properly? You may have a bad cable, you may have to reinstall BaseCamp, you may to do a factory reset on your device. Does BaseCamp see the SD card? Sometimes the cards do not make good contact and need to be removed and reinserted. Also you can try changing usb ports on your computer.

In the mean time, you can transfer all your Waypoints to an empty BaseCamp list. Copy all the points to another empty list and remove the points you do not want from the second list (do not delete). Export a gpx file and transfer it to your device via windows (your device and sd card should show up as external storage in windows).
