I've downloaded some Routes from the web. They've been created as XML tracks. A typical point looks like this: [FONT=courier new] <trkpt lat="46.554380021989346" lon="11.760569969192147"> <ele>1566.5409099999999</ele> </trkpt> [/FONT] NB there's an elevation at every point - very useful. So I import into BaseCamp - fine. Then in BaseCamp I create a Route from the Track - that works BUT the elevation is omitted from each point in the newly created Route !!! Create Route from Track omits elevation

I can't see anywhere in BaseCamp to alter this behaviour - any advice ?

Interesting question - not sure - is there an easy way to tell ?

I'm using 2 maps, one in an OpenMtbMap and the other is a German map.
They both have contours.
When I create a Waypoint if there's a feature it the vicinity it'll name the waypoint by that name otherwise it'll give it the elevation of the nearest contour.
If the map doesn't have elevation can't BaseCamp copy the elevations from the Track Points ?

Have just created a short new Route on both maps and when double clicking for details the popup can't show an elevation graph and it says no elevation data.

Now displaying the created route and track together. Can see that the route has many less points - that makes sense.
But it does look like each point in the route does coincide precisely with a point in the track.
So the elevation could have copied to the route.
Correct ?

It doesn't though. BaseCamp will display elevation only if the map you're using has elevation detail.

Yes, but it's not like there aren't issues with doing that.

Many routes are not created from tracks. Also, they can be changed/edited. Copying the elevation data isn't generally useful. It's only useful if the route is created from a track and the route isn't changed.

If Basecamp copied the elevation data, it would be wrong for any relocated route point.
