After typing several characters in the automatic search window Basecamp crashes. Can be reproduced after restart. Some location names do crash, others don't ?? My setup: Garmin Oregon 700 + OSM NLD_22_02_2018 + Basecamp 4.6.2 + Windows 10 + Avast antivirus . Also tested it on other PC resulting in same problem. Rebooting does not solve the problem.

  • Reinstall BaseCamp and reboot the computer. It should work again. I seem to get this problem every time Windows gets an update.

I am having exactly the same problem. As soon as I try to search in either the new route dialogue box or the trip planner dialogue box Basecamp Application stops working. Rebooting and reinstalling does not cure the problem. Basecamp 4.6.2 + Windows 10 + AVG antivirus.
  • Working fine on my Win10 ... Which map are you using?

My Windows 10 OS upgrades may have contributed to similar issues a month ago. I suspect that the crash was delayed a few seconds until the YELP online search kicked in. Reinstallation of Basecamp cured the issue a few days later.

Add Edit: Verify that the entire Windows 10 "big" March automatic upgrade as well as the later patches are properly installed in entirety. Download manually if incomplete. Then reinstall Basecamp.

I am using City Navigator Europe NTU 2018.3. This very frustrating when trying to plan routes with my Motorhome. I want to be able to plan my routes on my laptop transfer to my Avtex Tourer One 770 and wander off for few days or weeks with some nice scenic routes already in the Sat Nav. I thought the whole deal with Basecamp was to plan the routes I want not just what the Sat Nav wants to give me.
  • No issues as stated above with my Win 10 and I use BaseCamp pretty much everyday and have done for years. Try calling Garmin for detailed help in troubleshooting your PC.

I sent a request to Garmin as suggested, but also decided to have a bit of a play around and I may have a solution. I ran the compatibility troubleshooter in Win 10 and it came back with "run in compatibility for Windows 8" I have done this and so far ( just a few tests this evening) and it appears to be OK. Just have to get my Avtex Tourer One 770 to keep connecting to the laptop and find the routes I have sent it (but that's a different issue).

Attn: Please do not Edit out the quoted copy of the OP's summary of the crash issue, which seems to be related to malformed or obsolete YELP or other POI searches on the Internet. Peloca seems to have zeroed in on the cause, which may be worse with open source mapping. I set out to create a 16 day test trip across the US last night, but could not get more than 50 miles into the first day without encountering crashes with an OS generic California USA map.

But I am content with the trip planner in my 2014 Nuvi "Essential" 56 (no LM or T) device with non-updated Garmin maps (after the original plugin and firmware updates). If I travel these days, I hit the road with the first day route (if any) created just before departure and wing it along the way from there. I was ecstatic upon purchasing an automobile device with such a good trip planner (Nuvi 56) four years ago after being less than enthralled with my previous Garmin 255W device which never got used.

As to working around the Basecamp crashes with automatically updated Windows 10 security features and maps with obsolete URLs for POIs, at least the problem has been identified. For me, I learned four years ago that searching for POIs or Addresses on the device and creating Favorite waypoints was the most reliable procedure for me, particularly if I needed to start over and correct a route. Good luck to all, particularly with non-automotive devices or handhelds.
  • Force-close crashes on me now every single time I add a shaping point to a route. Garbage.
  • Rarely have BaseCamp crash. Try reinstalling it.
