I use the 660 LMT to navigate in my motorhome and it does a good job if left alone and allowed to pick it's own route. But sometimes I want to go a different route that no software could recreate. For example, I'm traveling south on I85 with a route that takes me through Atlanta on a Friday afternoon at say 5pm. Now anybody who's ever traveled through Atlanta knows you do not do that especially in a motorhome. So in Base Camp I modify the route to take US and State Highways in such a way as to avoid the Atlanta area and then re-connect with I 85 a few miles south of Atlanta. That route looks good in Base Camp, I save the route in Base Camp and download it into my 660.
Now my 660 has no avoidances in it, so if I blindly pick the just downloaded route, the GPS will route be right through Atlanta on I85 ignoring all the work I did in Base Camp. Now I could select the avoidance "Avoid Highways", but the GPS would simply create a route from my beginning to destination avoiding I85 the whole way, I don't want that.
So here's how I get around that: After transferring the route created in Base Camp to the GPS
- On the GPS, Select “Where To?
- Select the Trip Planner Icon
- Give the GPS a moment to load the transferred route, you will see a moving circle. Once the downloaded route is displayed select the downloaded route.
- If you see a note explaining how to edit - disregard and press OK
- The route will display with a start and destination. Ignore this and press GO
- A screen will display with 2 choices to select the next destination. IMPORTANT: Select the 1st choice. Note: Selecting the 1st choice will maintain the trip as created in Base Camp. Selecting the 2nd choice will allow the GPS to redraw the route according to the parameters set in the GPS.
- Press OK and a screen will display with the route shown as created in Base Camp.
- Press Start to start navigation
So the answer to getting the GPS to navigate the exact same route created in Base Camp and ignore it's own parameters is to select the origination in step 6 above which is not intuitive. It works, don't ask me why.
