Problem with post codes

I have recently moved to Garmin from TomTom, trying to get used to Basecamp (creating and adding favourites to my gps via PC). I find it really odd that the system cannot find simple post codes (please check the screenshot I've added). What am I doing wrong? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1327517.jpg

    Mindaugas,

Here in the US unfortunately using Garmin you have never been able to search via zip code (or post codes as you call them). Thing is, it’s kinda not Garmins fault, but rather the map set that they use. NAVTEQ. IIRC, NAVTEQ maps have never been searchable via zip codes. I know, it sucks... but you just have to work around it.

However, for some reason, I thought I kinda remembered hearing that EU had that option... so I’m not quite sure. ;-/

  • BaseCamp will find postcodes if the map supports them, like the Garmin CN maps. Which map are you using?

basecamp is using the map which is on the GPS itself (Full Europe). If I'll search post code in the device directly - no problem it finds. But in basecamp - no chance and this is the only program I know to easy enough arrange Favourites (waypoints) via PC.
  • Just put the postcode then into the search box. Always works for me using CN EU.

As I showed in the picture I've uploaded it does not find the post code, so really weird. I managed to find all the necessary places for my recent trip manually on the map in Basecamp (while using googlemaps side-by-side to compare) and the weirdest thing Nuvicam took me the most awkward roads (narrow, rural roads) to the destination avoiding all the normal ones nearby. I tried to change preferences to fastest, fuel efficient and other options. regardless - the result was the same, even when zoomed out I can see better roads access even it takes further distance but surely less time (Checked the hard way and also could see via google maps). I like the device itself but Basecamp is incomparable to MyDrive at tomtom's..
  • Well no idea why your BaseCamp isn't working with postcodes. Are you running the latest version? Some earlier versions struggled with postcodes but that was sorted. You must also ensure you have the CN map selected, other maps may not provide postcode search but that's a map issue and not a problem with BaseCamp, if it's not in the map data no program can find it ;)
  • First, if you are accessing the map off of your device, you should download the map to your computer. BaseCamp creates some files for its mapping products. There is a folder called ProductDataCache that if its contents get corrupted will mess up some stuff (e.g. incomplete listing of POI categories). Try deleting that folder (BaseCamp will rebuild it). I do not know the folders location off the top of my head, just do a folder search for ProductDataCache.

If you are accessing your map off the device, it may take some time BaseCamp to complete all its tasks. Let your device stay connected and leave BaseCamp open for awhile before disconnecting the device or shutting down BaseCamp.
