Strava & BaseCamp problem

Each time I try to import a .gpx file, of mine activity, into Garmin Basecamp, I get a failure notice (uunknown error when opening the import file), and not with gpx file from other Strava user ?
My own activity is upload on strava by connection with Garmin Connect & I use an Edge 1030

The problem is with <power>...</power>. You will have to remove this data from your files to get something that BaseCamp can read without an error.

To do this, you will need an editor that can do a replace using wildcard characters. If you do not have one, I would suggest you download Notepad++, it is free.

In Notepad++, you would enter <power>.*?</power> in the Find box, leave the replace box blank and choose Regular expression under Search Mode and hit Replace All. Replace is found under the Search menu.

I work around this problem by uploading the gpx-file to gpsies and download it from there. The downloaded file from gpsies can be imported in basecamp. But I suggest Garmin to fix Basecamp in order to be able to import GPX-files regardless of power information.

The power information in the files are part of an extension that is not defined, which violates the rules for a valid gpx file. Garmin is very strict in the following of these rules, both for import and export. It is the application that created the file that is at fault. I would assume that Garmin would skip over a properly defined extension not of there own making, but I do not know this for a fact.

Yes, there are lots of apps out there will ignore errors of this type. But I really can't blame Garmin for holding themselves and others to a high standard.

Another workaround that has worked for me.... Load the file directly into your Garmin Device (New files). My Garmin 1030 and 5x will read a Strava file this way.
