BirdsEye maps display in BaseCamp but not on GPSr.

I have just activated my BirdsEye 1-year subscription for my new GPSmap276Cx.

I have made two maps which are visible in BaseCamp, but can't see them on the 276Cx screen. I can see the demo 'Snowdon' on the 276Cx screen.

In the 276Cx, 'Configure Maps', there are ticks for the DEM, CN Europe and also 'BirdsEye Select France' and 'BirdsEye Select Great Britain'. I've discovered that adding ticks does not work until a switch-off and back on is done. Reasonable as maps are loaded at startup.

I connect the GPSr with Mass Storage and in the BC 'Library', under 'GPSMAP276CX (Unit.......', under 'Internal Storage', the demo and my two BE overlays are listed.

The 276Cx is drive D: and in the folder D:\Garmin\BirdsEye\ are listed 5 demo small .JNX files and my larger .JNX files. They are 26,889 KB and 27,732 KB in size.

So as BC can 'see' these BE maps and they disappear when I disconnect the 276Cx, with safely remove, what is the problem?
  • Have you tried zooming in ...

One area of BE download covers my home address and zooming in/out has no effect.

Having discovered the locations of .JNX (Jinx - a person or thing that brings bad luck!!!) files on my W 7 Pro 64 laptop and the 276CX, I have open in Windows these folders, so that I can see what is happening, or not.

After overnight thinking about the problem, I decided to do another, small 5,365 KB download, close to where I live in the UK. The BE image shows in BC and windows folders, but not in the attached 276Cx folder. I had ticked the 'Copy imagery to device after download' box as part of setting-uo the download.

So I used BC to 'Send to Device' the new download, the file then appeared in the 276Cx folder. But on disconnecting, the new image did not appear on the 276Cx. I always use the safe removal of external devices, so broken file transfers as a result of disconnection is not the cause of these faults.

Switching on the 276Cx and going to 'Configure Maps', I can now see a new item in the list - 'BirdsEye Satellite Imagery Subscription V2', which I ticked and then used the 'QUIT' button. The new image immediately appeared, as the map was displaying that location already. The previous BE images now also display.

The only thing I did was to check for device updates in BC with the result that I had the latest version, before starting today's work.

So the question now is, why did the 'V2' option not appear in the 'Configure Maps' display previously?

Also the 'Copy imagery to device after download', does not work, requiring a manual transfer.
