BaseCamp does not recognize that google earth pro is running, I use windows 10
  • Suggest you look at the sticky above your post.
  • From what I have seen on two of my computers, the newest Google Earth Pro update (7.3.xxxx) just released around 2/1, breaks the Basecamp to Earth link in a manner that the referenced /RegServer registration did not correct. There is quite a bit of discussion about this on the Google Earth forums. I did change the /regserver command to reflect the new location that the newest 7.3.xxxx version installs to which is different from previous versions, at least on 64bit OS machines (These observations were on two Win 7 Pro 64bit OS machines).

This newest update apparently when installed on 64 bit systems appears to be (the first?) full blown 64 bit version, so we may be seeing behavior differences between 64 bit versus 32 bit systems. It would take more work than I have done to fully quantify this.. This latest earth update will happen on machines running the Chrome browser as Google's updater apparently when it runs, will update all Goggle origin installed software e.g. browser and Earth.

The only fix that got it working again for me on my 64bit systems (and as described in several Google Earth forums) is to remove the newly updated Goggle Earth and reinstall the older 32 bit version available here. According to the Earth forums the direct install version available here has the update feature disabled... https://support.google.com/earth/answer/168344?hl=en

This direct install link installs the older 7.1.8.3086 version, which after resinstalling on two of my machines, the Garmin View menu to Earth map display works again without having the re-run the referenced /Regserver command. So far as functionality differences in the Earth versions, the only obvious thing seen is the older versions do not show the locations available with 360 degree photos views, don't use that anyway.

Can't vouch for everything I read on the Earth forum, nor did I do further extended removal/reinstall testing on my systems to more accurately narrow down what's going on here. Perhaps someone will undertake further testing of these differences... Once I got the BaseCamp to Earth view link working again, I stopped fiddling with the machines.
  • Yes, GE Pro updated itself the other day, and the sticky solution no longer works. I don't find the 7.1.8.3086 version mentioned above listed in the GE Pro download section. I might just wait a little while before installing an older version.

The odd thing for me is, running the command line actually starts GE Pro. It seems to be ignoring the /RegServer part. I'm sure I have it right....
    I'm running Windows 7.
    Opened command window as Administrator.
    CD C:\
    "C:\Program Files\Google\Google Earth Pro\client\googleearth.exe" /RegServer
And it actually runs GE Pro, so the path is correct.

Did the following screens not show up when you click on the direct installer links?

  • I am running GE Pro 7.3.1.4505 (32bit) on Win 10 (64bit) and have no problems calling GE from BaseCamp.
  • "I am running GE Pro 7.3.1.4505 (32bit)....."

    Thanks for the tip!

Just loaded GE Pro 7.3.1.4505 (32bit) on Win 7 Pro (64 bit) and the BaseCamp to GE link is still working... Looks like the magic is to stay with the 32 bit GE Pro versions versus the 64bit.
  • I uninstalled the 64-bit version that I had and installed the 32-bit version. The BaseCamp to GE function is working again. I did not have to utilize the command line register command.
Same version number as before, just 32-bit instead of 64-bit. (7.3.1.4505 32-bit). I can't see any significant performance differences, so this was a simple solution.

Yes, they did. I just didn't see 7.1.8.3086 in there. Or in your screenshots. See my other post - the 32 bit version is working fine. No need to install older versions, anyway.

My Google Earth Pro is 7.3.1.4507 (32-bit) from Tuesday, February 6, 2018 12:17;43 AM UTC and it is NOT being called by BaseCamp 4.6.2 on a Win7 64-bit system. I must be missing something. <sigh> Stephen

More tinkering this morning - uninstall/reinstall etc. and things seem to be working (better). :-)
