G'Day All, new to Basecamp and not very clever on computers. I've added a road to an OSM map it shows on the OSM site but not on Basecamp . How do I update the Basecamp map to show the road that I uploaded.
PS the map alteration was done about mid Dec 2017
The road I added was Barrys Lane near Markwell just north of Bulahdelah NSW Australia
Thanks from Australia Paul
  • Basecamp use files on your computer or your plugged-in device.

It doesn't use maps off the web.

You can use a USB stick or create a fake one.

    http://www.javawa.nl/virtualdevice.html

Put the map files in \Garmin.

The following are websites are places you can get img files based on current (with a 2 week lag) OSM data.

Free worldwide Garmin maps from OpenStreetMap (check "Manual tile selection" and pick the exact coverage you need).

Planet.osm extracts | BBBike.org (this lets you pick the region using a rectangle or a polygon).

Thanks dpawlyk and sussamb, the reason for my original question is that if the map on Basecamp is a different version of the map on my phone app (in my case OSM map on OsmAnd app) the route planned on Basecamp doesn't match the app. I have tried again reloading the map to Basecamp via Garmin.openstreetmap.nl but still no luck.
if someone has a bit of spare time could you please have a look and see if Barrys Lane shows on Basecamp . I certainly updated OSM in Dec, so may be I'm still doing something wrong
  • I can't do that as I don't use that specific map. As already pointed out if there is an update to an osm map you'll only see new data if you update the osm map that BaseCamp is using. One of the easiest ways to do this is to keep an osm map on a memory stick. That way it's easy to update as you just replace one .img file with the more recent one that you've just downloaded.

Sorry to be so naive on a computer but by reloading the OSM map to Basecamp using Garmin.openstreetmap.nl aren't I doing that . During the uploading process a pop up window asked if I wished to replace the existing map to which I said yes.
On the bottom of the map on Garmin.openstreetmap.nl it says map version 22/12/2017 so may be the map doesn't get updated as often as "dpawlyk" suggested
  • Different maps are updated differently. This isn't really a BaseCamp issue. Contact whoever provides the map and find out how often it's updated. Often it's stated on their web pages.
  • PS the map alteration was done about mid Dec 2017

"About mid Dec 2017" is not exactly helpful.

Your addition was done 30 Dec 2017 (after the extract used by http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/).

You have to wait until http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ updates its data (or find another source of maps).

(Barrys Lane wouldn't be a secondary road if it was a short road connecting two tertiary roads and unpaved.)

On the bottom of the map on Garmin.openstreetmap.nl it says map version 22/12/2017 so may be the map doesn't get updated as often as "dpawlyk" suggested

It used to be twice a month.

In any case, that date indicates when that site got the OSM data. OSM changes after that date won't be included.
