Transferring GPX files to NUVI 2597 LMT

I'm getting really frustrated with this process. I've never added files to my unit other than downloading the England/Ireland maps to a SD card.

I'm currently trying to get a prearranged trip loaded into the unit. I've tried going through Basecamp but it just says it's saved the trip to the unit but doesn't let me select tracks and then when I turn the unit on it won't recognize anything. I've tried loading the gpx files directly to the unit in the gpx folder - didn't work. Tried creating a new folder under gpx in the unit - didn't work. Tried putting the files in the Archive folder on the unit - didn't work. You might see a theme here. So the next assumption is the files are bad. The thing with that is other people have downloaded the same files and say they are working.

I've got the latest software update on the unit but not sure if it could be a firmware issue or how I check/update that.
  • You mention tracks. Nuvis cannot read tracks. You need to send routes. If you have indeed sent a route you'll find it in trip planner. I do it all the time and can assure you it works.

"Tracks" is what the website I'm downloading the gpx files from calls it. You upload the files (they recommend going through Basecamp), then Apps and Trip Planner. And I can assure you that nothing is showing up there. While I'm sure it works for lots of folks it's not working for me. That's why I'm looking for help. If the gpx files are in the gpx folder why can't I access them?
  • As I said, if it's a track your nuvi cannot read it so that is your problem. Now you've confirmed it's a track, select the track in BaseCamp, right click it and select Create route from selected track. Ensure that first you've selected the correct map in BaseCamp, probably best to select the map from your device unless you've also installed that to your PC for BaseCamp to use?

Now send the route to your device and it will show in the Trip Planner app.

If you still can't get it to show attach the file here and I'll have a look at it as it may be corrupted.

See attached. Tracks and Routes are different things. As above, only route can be shown on a Nuvi. Convert the tracks to routes as detailed by Sussamb.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1301390.jpg

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. I was able to convert the entire trip to Routes (1250 miles through Idaho from the Nevada Border to the Canadian Border). I transferred it to the Nuvi SD card and it's showing there both in Basecamp and through the connection on my computer so I know the files are on the card. However it is still not showing up in the Trip Planner.
  • Wow. The reason is the size of the route I suspect. On your device you can only have 30 viapoints in a route, although you can have many more shaping points. You might have to do some fiddling with the route in BaseCamp to ensure it shows on your device.
