Basecamp alternatives

There are two ongoing threads about the limitations of Basecamp and the wish that Garmin would update this old application.

I am curious. Has anyone here that has had their use of their Garmin unit limited by the limitations of BC tried alternatives to BC? I search on "alternatives to Garmin Basecamp" and found several options. I don't know enough to know if any of these alternatives would be a good option for me or the people here who are not well served by BC, but I am very interested to hear if you have tried one or more of them and how they faired against Basecamp.
  • Never found anything comparable ... BC does what I need it to do.
  • It does what I need, too, Sussamb. I was simply curious to see if those members here who find it lacking have looked at the alternatives.

What did you find? It's hard to comment about stuff you are keeping secret.
  • You didn't really look at the results.

The first link is to music.

Most of the links point to project management software.

Some of the results are to irrelevant junky "alternatives to" sites.

Some of the results are just old instances of people asking the same question.

Since you asked, I must conclude that you haven't used any of them.

You didn't look at the results you got.

I've actually used many of the gps-related programs mentioned in the few relevant links.

You said you "found several options" but we still don't know what you are talking about (presumably, not the project management software).

It seems that you are likely in the same position that I am, having only used Basecamp.

You have no idea what I use or know about.

Many people use websites like Ridewithgps to plan routes.

The nearest thing to Basecamp is probably QMapShack (which was "QLandkarte GT"). It's still a bit rough.
  • I did look at the results I got. You are right, I have no idea what you use or know about, and I apologize for suggesting such a thing, and I have deleted my post. However, you have no idea about whether I looked at the results I got.

We seem to have gotten different results.

The list that I got includes the following:

    QLandkarte GT

    GpsPrune

Viking GPS data editor and analyzer

    GPSPhotoLinker

    TopoFusion

    QuoVadis

    Gmap4

    QMapShack

    RouteConverter

Before you attack me for not looking into any of these, I'll admit up front that I have not. I went onto some of the websites and they look interesting. However, my original question, which I now regret posing, was to see if anyone here that is finding BC lacking has tried anything else that they find better. I never said that I had tried anything else that I found better. I have not. BC seems to work well for what I need, as I have said. That is not to say that something else would not be better, hence my question.

If I can find a way to close this thread, I will do so. This is not getting anyone anywhere.
