Birdseye imagery not activated on device so will be loaded in demo mode

Even tho everything shows activated in Birdseye and the unit is plugged in and everything seems fine, some maps are missing when viewing on the 64. There is a error on basecamp when sending the files that some maps are not activated. This prompt never returns to have it recheck even if you delete everything off the card and reload it.

How do I find what files its got trouble with ? Is there a error log I can go look at someplace ?

    Maps or imagery? There are limits on every Garmin device, see here for your device https://support.garmin.com/faqSearch...GOAC7SG3rGhV0A

    If you exceed them you'll get situations like you describe.

    Another very good support doc.. Really revelant to my insanely large downloads. Im exceeding these limits for Birdseye images. These are not correct. BUT.. Maybe there is some upper limit. Its higher then 250 tho that for sure. I will go count what I can see. Is there a error msg ? or a log ?

    The "not activated" error with down rez, is that what i would see ? Or is that something else ?

    I also get a corrupt JNX file message and I looked that up and there did not seem to be a way to isolate which file other then loading each one and booting the unit looking for the file one at a time.

    There must be some log in there someplace ?

    I did discover the cool little startup file that allows you to place a message on the start up screen. Thats really cool as I put my name and phone number in case I loose it and someone finds it.

    I will count the files on the SD card once its finished reloading. A quick ruff count looking at the map is 500 and like 20 are not displaying. So the 250 in that document cant be right. Maybe it got upped in a firmware update along the way ?

    I will have a real file count shortly. Maybe the SD card has a different limit ?

    But yes that document is a good one. Maybe I did run out of room. I was doing files outside of AZ, so more then I have done in the past. I need to add a link to these limits to mt Birdseye survival thread.

    Ive got 566 Birdseye images ( topo + Sat ) about 60 might not be working. So the limit might be 500 rather then 250. They are all on the SD card. I will triple verifiy this shortly and get it down to everything loading and verify. That 250 limit on the support page is clearly wrong tho.

    Interesting.. After a lot of work I think I agree with the 250 limit. Im still checking tho. There is no doubt I can display more then that, but, weirdness begins for some unknown reason. I think the 250 might be a known safe amount. I also discovered some other things along the way..

    I dont know what all was happening but I neded up with way more Birdseyes files on my card then I guess I really had.. Maybe they were old ones I deleted from basecamp and it never pulled them from the card ? Clicking on the SD card in base camp and counting the number items in the list it was different then looking at the card with explorer.

    I ended up looking at the c:/users/*user*/AppData/Local/Garmin/BaseCamp/DeviceCache/ folder and deleted everything in it. This was a amazing mess I found 7 duplication of all my data. I found old devices with duplication of their data. All together I recovered 1.6 TERABytes. This was truly sloppy coding because there is no way to clear all this from Basecamp that i know of.

    I then erased the SD card completely.

    I then opened Basecamp and allowed it to sync up the unit and card. Then "send to" my SD card a list of Birdseye that was 248 items. This took a long while. Once done I checked the SD card and it only had 231 items on it ?!? I "sent to" again and this time it got all 248. Inexplicable why it took 2 passes to get all the items onto the card. The folder showed a green check mark even tho it missed some.

    Ive now gone carefully thru all the images using the 64. Its all there and is good.

    Im going to add more images and go past the 250 and see what happens. Im going to clear the cache and erase the SD card each time before loading. Im going to verify the files get to the card and then verify all the images on the 64..

    I will need to update my Surviving Basecamp thread with how to clear the cache and about the number of files limitations.

    I think outdoor users really need a device and software to vastly expand the amount of things you can store in a handheld device.
