I have a route set up in Basecamp. All works well but from time to time there will be a slight detour. Is there a way I can pause the route and then restart it when I have passed the detour area?
I have a route our drivers follow when snowplowing. The turn by turn directions work now and I came up with a work around for my U-turn issue. It seems one of my last issues is when a driver is unable to drive down a street because of issues, such as too many parked vehicles or because the street is blocked for some reason. In a perfect world this would not happen but we don't live in a perfect world. How can they "skip" that block, drive around the obstacle by taking a different street(s), and then pick up the route on the other side of the blockage?
That's really not a BaseCamp issue - it's dependent on the particular GPS device you are using. Some, possibly most, provide a function for detouring from a route.
First step is to terminate the existing route in use. Then reselect the same route, but scroll down to the first user inserted STOP past current position as the Destination. It should not be necessary to restart the route from the beginning.
Note: Renaming of stops prior to use may be required for clarity. Good luck.
Add Edit: I do not have my 2014 Garmin Automobile routing device in hand right now, but do wish to add to Breezly's detour suggestion: My "Essential" device has Street Avoid as well as Shape Point Skip and "Full Stop" Skip features enroute. However it may not be convenient to try to use them in a big truck on a dark and stormy night in the snow. If the device gps signal drifts half a block, the device may think it is closer to an adjacent street vector and lock (snap) onto the wrong street. This can cause all sorts of havoc, including endless loops - at least in the summer time with leafy trees.
Therefor, absent intensive Driver Training on the device options, I still think terminating the routing and restarting by scrolling next Stop (Destination) as the target may be the more reliable method. YMMV.
