I have found it very convenient to use my computer for plotting routes, finding addresses, and other mapping tasks. I haven't been on a Garmin forum in years, but coming back I note that Basecamp is being abandoned by Garmin as far as any updates are concerned. Is there a replacement in the works or a suggested third party replacement? I like the abilty of being able to plan something on the computer and then transferring routes/waypoints to my Garmin device. Is the current Basecamp the only way to do this in the future?
Well BaseCamp is the only Garmin way. There are numerous 3rd party route plotting etc programs, really depends what you need to focus on. BaseCamp will remain my main routing program for the foreseeable future though.
The UX is a train wreck. Here's an easy one... how many "Garmin Adventures" do you have saved? How do you categorize them? I can't figure out how to have anything other than all 300 of them in the left sidebar. That alone is absurd. Many other usability issues that just make it a clunky mess.
I have been using Basecamp since it came out. I have configured it to work well for me. I travel full time in a 5th wheel and diesel F350 pickup. I still use Basecamp and hope it will still be available. I have all the states in Basecamp and include RV Parks that I stayed in and those that I want to stay in, in the future. I don't use Adventures either.
Do you think Basecamp will still be usable with future maps.
My complaint is that when I upload a trip that my RV770 will recalculate my trip and maybe reroute me differently. I use positioning points to reduce the recalculation...
I'm sure it will continue to work for many years to come, after all its predecessor MapSource is still working and available.
As for re-routing, I rarely get that on my DriveSmart provided I don't change the route, if I do then naturally the device recalculates. Like you I ensure there are sufficient points to limit any changes. However device behaviour isn't a BaseCamp issue, if you want your device to work differently with routes sent to it try asking here https://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/
Well it has one major flaw IMHO .. not being able to adjust walking speed. When walking trails in the Swedish mountains with a heavy backpack i average 3 km/h .. Basecamp insists on 5 km/h when planning a route.
So if anyone has a 3rd party option suitable for planning hikes that uses Garmin maps I´d love to hear about it :)
base camp is what was good about Garmin not sure what to do. this really sucks on Garmin will not buy a Garmin again lose data from last up date this really sucks!!!
