Basecamp is nearly unusable - for many years

OK.. So... Just installed BaseCamp and still, AFTER 3 YEARS, there are no install options.

1. Install Options that include drive and path for main program.
2. Install Options for Database drive and path
3. Install Options for maps drive and path

Entire program needs a refresh for 64 bit
Entire program needs refresh for Win 10

Birdseye needs seriously larger selection windows. To get the entire state of AZ in at highest resolution required 3 weeks of 4 hours a night just selecting and uploading.

Garmin needs to support larger SD cards natively. Having to format a 128GB SD card is annoying.

The Garmin Birdseye server needs to be seriously upgraded. People have seriously fast home connections now and maps are bandwidth intensive.

A next gen Garmin handheld needs to be able to handle large maps like Birdseye for a whole state better. It takes 2 mins to boot as it reads everything in off the 128GB card even tho the card is super high performance.

All these limitations have been around for years, some for a decade. Its time to address this mess.
  • Having used it now for many years it does what I need, and I wouldn't swap it for something else. Let me try to answer your queries:

    1. I haven't had to install it for a while so I'll accept you're correct.
    2. You can select Database and path, just go to Edit, Options, General, Database Options
    3. Not via BaseCamp but you can use JaVaWa's GMTK program http://www.javawa.nl/gmtk_en.html

Program works fine in Win10, what problems are you having? Having asked BaseCamp development has apparently ended, so it is what it is.

I agree BirdsEye selection is tedious, but as posted above it's unlikely to change.

Newer devices are now beginning to accept larger cards, legacy stuff will always need the FAT32 format. Having said that 32Gb at FAT32 seems more than adequate for most users.

Not sure what your point is in this post. The program was last updated two years ago and Garmin has made it clear, they do not plan on doing any more updates. There are no Garmin employees here, so you are not doing anything useful with the post.

On the maps movement, you do not need any programs. You can place maps anywhere and simply place a shortcut in Garmin's map directory. The maps will then show up in Basecamp.

And this is OK ? So for the entire future of Garmin all the functions of BaseCamp are now End Of Life ? No replacement of functionality with any product ?

To point out to others who google and find this thread that Garmin has deprecated a important functionality and inform them possibly ahead of a purchase decision about issues. I want to create a thread that will help others.

I also wanted to be sure of what I was posting was correct.

This is beyond the skills of most users of the product.

    Garmin employees monitor the forum.

My main intent is to make for searchable content on Google.
