Elevation Correction Quesiton

Ok, when I take a file into basecamp from a GPS, I can correct elevation and it will give me proper info on both the data points and on the summary box immediately after the correction.

When I create a gpx from my vivoactive 3 and take it into basecamp and correct elevation, it only shows up on the data points and not in the summary box. UNLESS I close out of basecamp entirely and go back in. After that the the summary is corrected.

Both files are in My collection.

Any explanation?
  • My guess would be a software bug. I assume correcting elevation means assigning map elevations to the track. As to why one gpx file behaves differently than the other, you will have to look at the files themselves to see what is different - they are text files and can be viewed with WordPad. Most likely one contains summary data and the other doesn't. The summary data will appear near the top of the file, before the first track point. The numbers may look strange, but that is because the base units in GPS are meters and seconds.

A recalculation can be forced by deleting a single track point, this should update the summary. Closing and opening BaseCamp is easier than the alternative for forcing a recalculation and keeping all the points. The harder method would be to cut the track near the beginning. Rejoin the two parts and delete the one duplicated point.

Sorry, but that is the best I can do.
  • Gives me something to play with .... not something I will do every day but playing at track manipulation keeps me sharp. Your assumption about correcting elevations to the track was correct.
