eTrex35t Saved Track not Visible in BaseCamp

I just updated my eTrex35t to firmware version 3.60 and am no longer able to view saved tracks using BaseCamp 4.6.2 for Windows.

In both cases I used the eTrex35t to record a hike - at the end of the hike I stopped recording and saved the track. I noticed that the eTrex35t started recording again and, after a few seconds I switched the eTrex35t off.

Later, after connecting the eTrex35t to my laptop running BaseCamp, I was able to view a file named "Current Activity 16 Nov 2017 17:41" with a few points in it, but there was nothing recorded earlier on the same day.

Prior to eTrex35t firmware version 3.60 I had no problem recording and saving tracks - is this a eTrex35t firmware problem or a BaseCamp software problem?

Is there anywhere in this forum to report eTrex problems or an email address for Garmin to report this problem?
  • Well BaseCamp hadn't changed so it's either an issue with your Etrex after the update or the software itself. I suggest you first do a master reset. If that doesn't work call product support.
  • I disagree - something has changed - I have saved tens of tracks over a number of years and this is the first time it has failed.

I just updated to firmware 3.70 and set the track recording to manual (I'm not sure how long this option has been there).

Prior to making a test walk, I started recording, walked a short distance, stopped recording and hit save. A new screen asked if I wanted to reset the current activity and current track and gave the choice of apply or cancel. Rather than choosing either, I switched the eTrex off.

Now with BaseCamp I can see data in "Current Activity: Date Time".

I have the impression that, if track recording is set to automatic and you hit save, the Current Activity data will be reset (i.e. deleted) - in any case, prompting to reset the Current Activity when a user has hit save seems illogical. It would make more sense if, after hitting save, the track was saved under an automatically generated name or the user were prompted to provide a name.

Unless I'm mistaken, the way things work at the moment would be potentially dangerous if a user were hiking in the middle of nowhere.
  • Manual or Automatic only affects when track points are logged. If you access your device via the Windows directory are you able to see your saved files? What are the file extensions? It could be that Save is saving the data in the .FIT format, which BaseCamp no longer supports.
  • Exactly what messages are you getting? When you go to save the current track then having done so the option is to either keep or delete the current track. If you are having issues that you suspect changed with a software update the first thing to try is to master reset the device, this is advised after any software update. If that doesn't help and you believe it's the update then try reverting to the earlier software.

Incidentally my comment about nothing changing was in respect of BaseCamp, not your device.
