Basecamp and Device route conflict

I wonder if anyone can explain to me a reason for the following route conflict.

When a route is planned in Basecamp to the destination shown in the attached images (red route) it is totally at odds with a route planned to the same destination using the Garmin DriveSmart61 (purple route).

Rather unusually the Basecamp route (red route) actually attempts to take me down a one-way street. This is shown in the final stages of the route where the route takes a sharp left turn.

The Garmin DriveSmart61 (purple route) planned using Route Planner as well as taking a much more easterly route before crossing over the river does in fact follow the one-way system further north of the Basecamp route. This is also supported by the fact that on the return journey the red and purple routes merge to follow the one-way system.

I have confirmed the existence of this one-way system using GE Street View.

Initially my first reaction led me to a mapping error but as both Basecamp and the DriveSmart61 are using City Navigator Europe NTU2018.20 and both are using the same settings in as far as this allows, I am now left scratching my head.

So, any sensible suggestions most welcome. :-)

  • Check the routing and avoidance settings in BaseCamp. Also note some activity profiles, eg walking, will go down one way streets.

Thanks but profile set is Caravanning and routing and avoidance settings in Basecamp are as should be.
  • Well something isn't right. Are you able to post the start and finish point as I can't work out where they are from the screen shot so I can check it. Also as your drive doesn't have a caravan setting you really should use the driving profile.

Yes, the Start point is Camping Les Sable Blancs N48.88207, W3.92877 and the Finish point is Camping Trezulien (top left in the screenshot but not the blue Waypoint) N48.09320, W4.35243.

Just to repeat - the purple route is that presented using the Route Planning app on the device whilst the red route is that offered by Basecamp.

The Caravan profile is one that I created (in effect to match my Caravan Routes folder) but in effect, double-clicking on the route which opens up the route properties and then changing the profile to driving doesn't alter things. Basecamp does what appears to be a quick recalculation but in the end the same route is presented.
  • Interesting, I'd just managed to locate the area prior to your post and was about to add an edit to mine. Sending the trip from BaseCamp I get the BaseCamp route initially on my device, however if I do a recalculation on my device I then get the exact same route as on your Drive, so it must be down to a slight difference in the routing algorithms used by BaseCamp and your device (and mine). This can happen occasionally which is why it's always a good idea to check pre-planned routes after they've been loaded to the device, and after you've forced a recalculation..

Well then, it's not just me thank goodness. Thanks for your efforts in this - much appreciated. Strangely enough I've always been somewhat dismissive of creating routes using the Drive61 but as the entire route (home > 3 campsites > back home) is over thirteen hundred miles thought for a belt and braces approach I'd do just that and then compare like for like with Basecamp. If nothing else, I'm going to feel a lot happier setting off and following the Driv61 created route (so long as the blessed thing doesn't recalc along the way lol).
Checking I agree is ALWAYS to be advised when time/opportunity allows and it was only this conflict in routes that prompted me to take a look at the area in question using GE Street View and to discover the conflict was the result of one-way street routing.
