It's more a question of ensuring BaseCamp routing and avoidance settings match those on your device, and also that you use the same map. Even then there is no guarantee that the routes will match exactly.
It used to work for me great. Now I guess its a matter of putting enough shaping points in and then having to verify the route on the GPS. I thought the Edit/options/device transfer setting for "Always match route to the map on my device when transfering" has something to do with it.

That's what I have learned that must done to make the routes have a chance of matching between BaseCamp and my nuvi 3597.
One other thing I've also learned is to put shaping or waypoints well away from intersections and route change points (turns, exits, merges, etc) that the route will make as that can interfere with the GPS properly doing the heads up notification of an impending turn/change...
