Waypoints not showing

Garmin Montana 610.
When I create a waypoint on the Garmin, it shows on the map that is on the screen. However, when I open that route in Basecamp, the waypoints do not show. I can't seem to find a menu item to turn them on. Can it be done or is this the way BC is supposed to work?

Thanks
  • Thanks much, Sussamb. If I do that, do I lose all my data? I've backed stuff up, so I can always simply import it back. I'm just curious.
  • thanks again for all your time and patience. I'll take your advice later this evening and let you know how I make out.

    Take care

  • Well, Sussamb, I uninstalled and re-installed BC this morning and nothing changed. Waypoints still do not appear on my PC.

I don't see any point in taking more of your time on this. It's more of an annoyance than a real issue for me. I can see the waypoints on my Montana, and for me, that is the main thing. I need to be able to get back to waypointed spots, and I can do that. Seeing them in BC is a bonus.

Thanks again for all your time.

  • No problem. Someone else may have a light bulb moment :)
  • Sussamb: I have new info. Today, I was once again trying to see if I was missing anything. In BC, if I look at a track in the internal storage of the Montana, the waypoints do show up on the screen of my PC. They also show in the waypoints list when I click on the icon you talked about. When I look at the same track that I have copied from internal storage to my pc, the waypoints do not show up. So, it's clear that something is not copying all the information from the Montana to BC on my PC.

Does that info help at all to diagnose the problem? I apologize for not mentioning this previously. At the end of a weekend, I copy all my paddles from internal storage to my pc, the back it all up. When looking at the paddling info, I look at the copy on my pc, not the copy in internal storage, so it didn't occur to me until today that they may be different.
  • Could you have the wrong folder selected in Base Camp? If you are saving the waypoints on the device itself, they should be in "Internal Storage", not the SD card. Also, make sure you have the filter set correctly to include waypoints at the bottom of the pane when you have Internal Storage selected.
  • Also note copying the track won't copy the waypoints. If they're all showing in the internal storage of the Montana you need to copy both the track and waypoints into BC.
  • Alan: I'm not sure what you mean by wrong folder. In BC, my device is shown as the Montana. Immediately under that heading, I have "internal storage" and 'worldwide autoroutes". If I highlight "internal storage" my track list opens. If I highlight a track, it appears on the map in the right-hand window. As long as the highlighted track is in internal storage, on the map, I see the track and any waypoints that I set on the Montana while paddling.

I routinely drag and drop all my tracks from "internal storage" to a folder on my pc drive. Those folders are sub-folders of "my collection". So, for example, this year I created a folder for "summer2017". When I drag and drop from "internal storage" to "summer2017", a small green bar appears showing the progress of the copy. When finished, if I highlight the "summer2017" folder, I see the track that I just copied from "internal storage". When I highlight a track in that folder, it appears on the map in the right hand window.

However, the waypoints that I set on the Montana do not appear on the map. So, obviously (I think), when I copy the track from internal storage to my collection, BC is not copying the waypoints.

I can't see any settings in BC to include or exclude waypoints in transfers from the Montana to BC, so I don't know how to fix this.

Thanks much for trying to help.
  • As I posted above seems like all you're copying is the track. You need to copy the waypoints also.
