Loading maps to 76CS with basecamp

In mapsource one could see what maps are loaded in a 76CS. How do I load or remove maps on a 76CS using BASECAMP?

TIA! Paul

As far as I know BaseCamp/MapInstall don't support serial connections but do USB (the 76CS does both). Whether MapInstall will work with the 76CS or not I'm not sure. IMO the best solution is to use MapSource (v6.16.3).

Thanks so much stuartmw! I have been using mapsource with my old 76CS to load maps back and forth. What I CANNOT do in either software is load City Navigator North America NT 2017.1.
to the 76CS. Any idea what is going on there. The maps show but loading is not an option.

I DO upload and DL routes/tracks etc with BC using a USB. I just cannot load mapsets to the 76CS via BC... Hope this makes sense.

I don't think the 76CS supports NT maps (for any region). In fact I think the last North American map supported is CN NA 2008 (which I have). My 76CSx does support NT maps.

PS: I have a number of non-NT map products as my GPS-V doesn't support NT maps either. Also it only has 19MB of map memory vs the 115MB of the 76CS. The GPS-V is serial only--making for very slow map loading.

I REALLY appreciate your feedback and I'm getting a feel for the software/hardware requirements of my OLD unit. I use to (years ago) know all about these units, but I'm finding out now I'm really behind...LOL

Anyway, I actually have CN NA 2009 on this PC and that is what I've been loading. I did not know NT maps were not compatible with the old 76CS.

How do I get MS or BC to even see and acknowledge the presence of CNNA NT 2017.1 to load to a CSx? Will CNNA NT 2017.1 show up if plug in a CSx?

I I have a good friend that is trading me STRAIGHT ACROSS his 76CSx for my 76CS! Great friend huh?

    Sorry to be long winded...

    Paul,

Both MS and BC see my CN NA NT 2018.20 maps so I don't know why you're having issues with 2017.10.

I used to own a 76CS but sold it and got a 76CSx in 2006.

Don't feel bad because knowledge about older models (even at Garmin I bet) is hard to come by. The bottom line is that Garmin wants you to buy a new one every few years even if what you have works fine.

Huh...I do see CN NT NT 2017.1 in BC but it shows up nowhere in MS...Crazy. How is your MS and BC accessing the CN NA NT? Via an SD card or did you make a .cmd file to run it off the PC? I'm wondering where the data from the NT must reside for MS to read it. That might be my issue.

    Again, thanks for your patience.

BC will read/display maps from/on a unit or removable storage (e.g. SD card)--that is from a IMG file. MS won't. I never did and never will.

In my case almost all my maps are PC based--that is in .gmap folders for the newer ones or registry based for the older.
