How to identify Toll Roads when planning a route

I travel fulltime and make each trip to a destination using Basecamp. When making my trip Basecamp shows the route going sometimes 30 to 50 miles away from my trip. I found out that some of the routes I want to make goes over a toll road. I prefer to not take toll roads and have the avoidance to not use toll roads.
I don't know that until I have tried to use the shaping tool. Some maps I have used in the past show toll roads as a different color or make some way to identify them. Is there a way to see toll roads.

Thanks

  • Only if the map you're using shows them

Thanks, however I am talking about the most recent Garmin map I downloaded to both my RV760 and my computer. The Garmin maps don't indicate a roadway is a tollroad. If Garmin does not indicate a roadway is a toll how can I plan a proper route not using tollroads or do they have a way to identify the tollroads and bridges? That would be very helpful.

  • Check the appropriate part in avoidance. I have two custom activities set, one to avoid toll roads and one to include them, so I can easily switch between the two.

Try manipulating the Basecamp detail level from highest through lowest.

Try zooming through available magnification levels.
    .
In your RV760 device try selecting "Ask before entering toll road" (or whatever it is called). Then scroll through the Route Directions on the device to test Toll Road entry locations for possible shorter non-toll bypass routing. (Sometimes the Avoid Toll Road option does not use the more direct routing close to toll roads).
  • Yes. I understand all of the above. However I can discover a toll road by starting out having the Avoidance checked for toll roads. Then if BC will not use the route I want I can remove the Toll Avoidance to see if it will then route on that highway. I can also change from RV to Car to see if there is a change. This can be time consuming and frustrating. If the maps indicated that certain areas were toll roads by using a different color for the toll roads and bridges then I could see the problem and adjust my route as needed.

I have used a number of mapping programs and some did this.Scrolling through about 200 miles of route directions is a real problem and time consuming.

So I guess I will have to put up with it. Basecamp is an excellent program. Others have griped about it but I have learned how to use it and I like it. This is really a problem with the actual map. I just though I would see how others handled this concern of mine.

    Thanks for the responses..
