Basecamp slow using Europe Maps on card

I originally downloaded the Europe maps to my GPS and had to have the GPS attached to my laptop to use them with Basecamp. That GPS was replaced under warranty so they sent me the maps on a micro SD card. I put it in the slot on my desktop to write routes with Basecamp and Basecamp is from slow to unresponsive. I expect there's no solution for this. I thought I'd just buy updated maps that included Iceland which is what I'm working on. It only comes as a download or SD card. So, I'm assuming I'd still not be able to put the maps on my desktop computer?

So annoying. All I want to do is write the routes but Basecamp is so slow it's going to take an eternity.

  • I'd look elsewhere for the issue. I have maps on a USB stick and BaseCamp isn't slow at all.

    Hello Nancy,
    That is not normal.
You might first backup your existing data. File > Backup... a "Backup To" window opens. On the left you need to make sure you have a path to "Backup Files".
In Windows 7 it is > User Name > AppData > Roaming > Garmin > BaseCamp > Backup Files.
The file should already be named "BaseCamp 2017-mm-dd.Backup" click Save.
Then completely uninstall BaseCamp, download a fresh copy and re-install.
Then open BaseCamp and click File > Restore.... OK and a "Restore from" window opens.
The path to your Backup Files should be there but if not use the left side to get the correct path.
Click the latest Backup > Open and all your data will come in.
Then put the SD card into your computer and it does take a long time for BaseCamp to load and store the data the first time. Go have coffee :)
When you remove the SD card BaseCamp cannot access the map anymore BUT when you put it back in BaseCamp should access the map very quickly.
If everything is still slow you might need more RAM or a newer computer or both.
