Joining tracks end-to-end? Basecamp 4.6.2 keeps connecting both ends

I'm trying to plan a route by taking a half dozen or so tracks (GPX files) and connecting them. Once I get a nice clean combined track, I'll turn it into a route for my 64ST

But when I "join select ...tracks" it connects them at least twice, once at the obvious place, and then connects the ends. (or one end and somewhere random in the middle).

Is there a way to tell it not to join the ends?
or an easy way to delete the dead straight link?
Or any easier way to do what I am trying to do? (I'm fairly new to Basecamp)

It's difficult to tell what you are seeing because what you describe shouldn't happen. Tracks are directional and BaseCamp will join the end of the first track to the beginning of the next.

First you need to make sure the tracks are moving in the proper direction. You can change the direction of a track by double clicking on the track name in the lower left pane and clicking on Invert. You can also do this by selecting a track and Edit Menu>Advanced>Invert Selected Track.

Join tracks by selecting all of them in the lower left pain and then right clicking on one of them and choosing Advanced>Join Selected Tracks or via Edit Menu>Advanced Join Selected Tracks. A pop-up window will appear with a list of the tracks in the order they will be joined. The order can be changed by selecting a track in the pop-up window and clicking on the up or down arrow to the left. The curved arrow to the left (between the up and down arrow) is another way to Invert a track.

If you are in "My Collection", deletion will remove an item from the database. Anywhere else, you will have the option of removing an item from a list (while keeping it in the database) or removing it from the database (and therefore, all lists). Items can be isolated by copying them to an empty list.

Long lines can be removed using the Scissors tool which will create two tracks where the end of one will be the start of the other (i.e. one point in the track will be duplicated so that it is in both tracks). The eraser tool can be used to remove one of the points from one of the tracks.

Note too that tracks are joined in the order you select them if you select them individually using Ctrl + click. Sometimes this is easier that selecting all of them in one bunch.

directional, ok

I'll try inverting them. I have been selecting two tracks, doing "join ...selected" to make sure they are connected, then selecting the new track and a 3rd, joining, repeating with the new track and the 4th section etc

I'll try the invert trick
