Adding New Roads

Hello,

Is there a way I can add a new road to a map in BC?

I recently purchased an Eastern Africa Garmin GPS Map from Tracks4A and inside the major cities some minor roads are missing. Is there a way I can add them manually?

Thanks,

- Tamir
  • No, there's no way of doing that.

For maps from Garmin, you have to report it as a "map error" and wait. Basecamp has a means of reporting map errors (I haven't used it).

As an alternative, you can get maps based on Openstreetmap (OSM) data that cane be used in Basecamp.

    http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/

    http://extract.bbbike.org/

It takes a while to learn how to do it but you can edit the OSM data.

It's also possible that the OSM data already has the roads you are looking for.

    Thanks dpawlyk,

I will try the OpenStreetMap (I'm currently 2560 in the queue !!)
I tried to create the route in Google Map, export it as KML and import it back to BC. It seems a little bit awkward on BC, I wonder if this will work while it will be transferred to the Garmin device.

It will probably be faster than you think it will be.

Yes, this will work. Sort of.

I don't know what unit you have or how you are going to use the route.

You should be able to follow the route as a track but probably not as a fancy "route:.

Some of the units expect that the map on the device has the roads that match the track for fancier routing.

I wonder if you should talk to the map company.
