Help with planning a route

Having been a TomTom user and creating routes using Google Maps and converting to ITN files I now have a Garmin Nuvi 2599 as my TomTom broke and the new ones don't have Itinery.

I am struggling with the Garmin and Base Came. I create a route in Google Maps, then convert to GPX file using ITN Converter but when I import into Base Camp iut shows the route as straight lines and not following the roads :(

So lets say I want to create a route from my house to various places following a defined route and then back home. How do I do this using Google maps and them importing into my Garmin?

BaseCamp doesn't come with detailed maps installed so you'll get straight line routes unless you either have your nuvi connected or have installed maps to your PC. Have you done either?

However what you should do is export the route from Google as a kml file and then import that directly into BaseCamp.

Hi, yes the Garmin is plugged into the pc and map detail is set to high

However I also have Tyre installed and can do a "Copy To Garmin" which seems to work fine. I am going to do a test route and checkit before my main holiday :)

Try double clicking on the route in the lower left pane to bring up the Route Properties. Check to see if the Activity Profile is set to Direct. If so, change it to Driving. You may have to click on Recalculate either way.

The icon shows it's set to motorcycling but a recalc might help.
