It's been a while since I last used my eTrex30 but following a weeks walking I connected to my PC only for BaseCamp to tell me no device was connected. Ran Mapinstall to see if I'd missed an update, but again PC fails to find eTrex30. Went through settings on PC to find new device, but again nothing. Removed batteries and installed fresh ones, nothing. Tried connecting whilst holding power button, nothing. Tried connecting whilst holding thumb button in up position, nothing. I've been tempted to hit it with a hammer, but I know that wont get me much further. At present it's about as much use as a chocolate Teapot. Any suggestions?
If nothing is detecting your device I'd suspect the cable ... are you using the original Garmin one, as there are differences in USB cables. If you are you may need a new one. Try checking whether it's a cable issue by using another PC or some other cables, if you're able to do so.
thanks for that suggestion, I tried four different USB cables and finally found one which connected. The other three cables all function perfectly OK with other devices!
Most people don't realize that there are actually at least three, maybe four, different standards for the physical connectors on "standard" USB data cables. Most devices are tolerant enough to handle most data cables. Some devices are very picky. It appears that h0phead's eTrex is one of the picky ones.
