Trouble Creating an Off-Trail Route from Waypoints

I created waypoints in Google Earth which I saved as a KMZ file and imported into Basecamp. I then created a route in Basecamp with these waypoints. So far, so good. The trouble occurred when I tried to connect the waypoints. The route seemed to recalculate and create unwanted sections. In particular, it tried to route me along an established trail when I wanted to go off trail. I tried to move the lines of the route to where I wanted to go without success.

Any advice on how to draw an off-trail route using existing waypoints?

The issue will be the map you're using, and the activity profile you've selected. If you have a routing profile and the map won't route the way you want choose Direct activity.

I changed the profile to direct and it worked fine. I did have to create 2 routes with different profiles for on and off-trail hiking and then join the route together.

You can enable direct routing for segments of a route by changing the attributes of the viapoint/waypoint at the start and end of the segment.
