RV 770 does not see routes from BaseCamp

Just got my new RV 770 today. After updating all the files I test downloaded a route from BaseCamp and the 770 does not recognize the download. I tried sending the route to the internal and external locations. The downloaded route and waypoints show up when viewed in BaseCamp but the 770's Trip Planner App doesn't see them.
Any ideas?
  • Are you giving your device time to import the route? Once you have they should appear in trip planner.

The routes and waypoints copy almost instantly. The waypoints copied to the internal memory show up in the Saved list but the route does not show up in the Trip Planner. If copied to the external memory nothing shows up on the 770. I can look at the folders with Windows Explorer and the files show up.

My RV760 was almost identical in operation and it had no problems working with BaseCamp. I guess I will have to call Garmin and let them know they have an issue with thins new unit.

Garmin is marketing a speciality product that most people will assume will keep them safe, and it fails. Basecamp is the ONLY way to always be on top of that using third party POI's and Google Earth.

That's an excellent point. I guess those of us who like to bash Basecamp for its many shortcomings and difficulty of use for some functions need to really be aware that there's only so much the devices themselves can do. So some sort of external functionality that can use external data and run on much more powerful hardware is a critical part of the whole combination.

Well said. The thought of a small device being able to provide safe large vehicle routing with real time recalculation for the entire USA is perhaps unrealistic at best. I once looked at "official" bridge capacity data within the state of Texas and found the project to be overwhelming for my small brain.

But if I had an RV770, I would play around with the Current gpx file in Wordpad to see how the exported terms in the gpx file varied from the RV760 before trying an import again.
  • I updated the RV770 software from 2.5 to 4.7 via Garmin Express yesterday and at first I didn't see any difference, routes were not in the Trip Planner, so I didn't mess with it any more. Today I was going to start practicing manual route creation and to my surprise one of the routes I sent from BaseCamp showed up in the Trip Planner and the list page had a header "Imported Trips". I also noticed that only some of the waypoints were now showing in Saved places when before they all showed up. I resent the waypoints and routes and everything showed up as it should!!! Just to make sure I deleted all the waypoints and routes in the unit and tried the whole process again to see if it was repeatable, it wasn't. So it's a small improvement and it proves that it can work but not yet.
  • It looks like v 4.70 came out on April 6, but nothing in the release notes specific to BaseCamp support:

Changes made from version 2.50 to 4.70:

Added support for Swiss LV03 and LV95 coordinate formats.
    Improved routing calculations.
Improved pronunciation of some street names.
Fixed several issues with the display of Arabic text.
Fixed an issue that caused the unit to shut down when connecting to a computer.
Improved messaging to notify users when an SD card can no longer be used.
    Enabled Environmental zones for Europe.
    Improved software stability.

Are you using the included device map linked from the RV-760 or RV-770 with each route creation in BaseCamp? It seems likely that the RV devices would require special road vector avoidances built into the maps. RV770 maps may have been modified in concept. Generic maps are likely not going to get the job done properly.

Methinks the gentleman doth protest too much! From following this thread I thought that the issue was that the routing was not properly avoiding trouble spots. Now it seems that the Driver is second guessing a calculated route that seems (IMHO) quite sensible for a long rig in heavy traffic. FWIW my Nuvi56 with 2015 maps used neither turnoff, but suggested a left turn onto S Kings Hwy.

I know this is a old thread, but I am seeing pretty much the same thing with my RV770, and am curious if this was ever resolved. Mine doesn't crash every time, but has a couple of times. I have tried using the Device pulldown in Basecamp, and send the route to device, I have also tried dragging the route to the device in basecamp. Every time the temp.gpx file gets updated, but no routes show up. When I open the temp.gpx, there is only 2 <rte> sections, and I sent 3, They also used the start and end points for the name rather than what I had them named in Basecamp.
  • As far as I know all of the issues have been resolved with the 770. Run Garmin Express on your unit and make sure it's got the latest updates. I have been sending routes and waypoints to my 770 without any issues. Your issue sounds like a mismatch of settings or incorrect methods.
I right click on the route I want to send and select "Send To..." and pick the "internal storage" on the 770 and click OK. You shouldn't need to mess with the temp.gpx file or Device pull down.
