My Nuvi 1490 has updated to City Navigator Europe NT 2017.2. As it is so slow to use the map via usb from the 1490, Garmin tech advised to use Garmin Express to copy the map to my PC. Done, it is in the Program Data/Garmin folder. Garmin tech sent the unlock codes which I have installed. Basecamp 'Unlock Regions' says map not installed. 'Map product information' says 'unauthenticated'. Garmin tech has been unable to help - this has been going on for over 2 weeks. In Basecamp if I select the 2017.1 map, it works fine. If anyone can help - please do! Also, can I still use the 2017.1 for plotting routes and load to the 1490 with the 2017.2 map version? Many thanks.
Easy one first. Yes, you can use any map in BaseCamp to plot routes and send them to your device, but you may find your device changes the route. Note that can also happen even if the two maps are the same, as it also depends on the settings in BaseCamp and on the device.
Now the more difficult one. Why you're in this situation is difficult to understand. Update Express first then use it to redownload the map to your PC. There should be no need to download unlock codes, Express should do all of that for you. If that doesn't work for you come back.

Thank you for coming back so quickly, appreciated. OK, I had updated G Express before copying. Re unlock codes, I had to ask for this for the previous map update. Having followed Garmin's instructions, it worked. I tried to unlock after GE update/map transfer and before code by using 'skip' at the unlock request which always comes up when I fire up BC. I was told to do this by Garmin and it's always worked - until now! If of any use, GE always tells me I have voice and proximity updates, every time I fire it up even I always install them.
