Can't install TOPO US 24K Southwest v3 Maps on GPSmap 60CSx

Hello, I've been searching and working on this problem for several days. I have 60CSx I purchased in 2010. I also had a set of US 24K Southwest Maps on CD I purchased in 2010. I updated my Laptop to Windows 10 and that's where it all went wrong.

I took me a while to get BaseCamp 4.6.2 installed but I succeeded. Of course I then tried to install my TOPO maps from 2010 and it gets to about 57% and then just stalls.

I purchased new TOPO US 24K Southwest v3 that are on a micro SD card but as yet have not been able to install them on my 60CSx or my PC. I did drop the map file onto the SD data card I had in the 60CSx and it replaced the one in there from 2010 :(but now I my 60 CSx shows no maps at all. I'm really going downhill with this right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :(

Thanks!

Mike

EDIT: I have managed through some miracle to get the v2 of TOPO Maps installed back on my PC by having Windows fix compatibility issues with the software. I'm now installing (Hopefully) the maps back on to my GPS. I'll know after 4 hours or so of install time if it works.

My next task will be to get the v3 of the TOPO maps installed on to my PC. Not sure how to do this since it's basically an image file and no installer software.
  • First, maps on a card are locked to the card so you must use them on the card they were supplied on.

Second, as you say the map is an image file so you can't install it on your PC. What you can do is create a virtual removable drive and copy the file to that for BC to use, or copy it to a USB stick or SD card, BC will then read the map from that.

OK, so I now have the original TOPOs, v2, installed on an SD card in my GPPS. If I take that SD card out and put the v3 SD card TOPO maps into the GPS I see those.

I also have the v2 version installed on my PC so that when I open BaseCamp I see those. If I put the v3 TOPOs SD card into my PC SD card reader and open BaseCamp I see both the v2 and v3 versions and can use either one with BaseCamp.

I just can't install v3 permanently on my PC and I guess that's what you said. Unless of course I create a virtual drive.

I guess that's the best I can do, Yes?

    Thanks for your reply!

  • Yes :)

Although as I also said you could also copy the img file to another card or memory stick for BC to use.

So I copied the new topos onto a SD card which I'll leave in the card reader ( since I don't use for anything else) and keep the other one in the GPS. Everything is good in my GPS world again.

    Thanks for your help!
